The Inspiration

"Ripples, gentlemen, build powerful currents...and these are what can take down mountains." - Fr. Matt Shaw

Knockin' On Heaven's Door is based on the book, The Studentbaker Corporation, by James Brady Callan. The timeless story was inspired from his years in the seminary studying to become a Roman Catholic priest where he and his friends had a desire to experience life, to impact the world in a meaningful fashion, and to connect in the passion of the human experience.

The late 1960s was a tumultuous time of questioning authority, foreign war, and powerful changes that frayed the fabric of society. Jim and his classmates were right in the middle of it impacting their community and the wider world by using their energy, vision, and ideas to make a difference in the lives of people who had fallen through the cracks of society.

The group was inspired by courageous leaders of the time like Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy. And they embraced RFK's message of the ability of each individual to create a ripple of hope that can build into a current and eventually become an unstoppable force that can move mountains.
